Valley of the Spirits
Brief
To create a new immersive themed land. This park has a high budget and wants to make a new groundbreaking expansion with two large scale attractions. Particular attention must be considered with the natural setting of the area and have many vantage points for viewing and food offerings.
Solution
Working with a collaborator Jay from Parkscape Designs, I lead the creative for this Japanese themed area, taking inspiration from Kubo And The Two Strings and Studio Ghibli films, the area is littered with traditional Japanese architecture and gardens to creative an immersive and peaceful ambiance. The two main attractions are two large scale contrasting rollercoasters, Yokai & Ikuchi. One with an intimidating dark theme and an intense ride experience with the other focusing on floaty airtime and views of the entire area. The fountain area and a small boating village provide atmospheric areas for viewing and eating, all with a dynamic area soundtrack.

Yokai
Inverted Coaster
The first rollercoaster to be built in the valley. Situated in the gardens of a haunted mansion and named after a Japanese spirit, this coaster is a combination of floaty weightless inversions and intense positive G-forces in the valleys and helixes. The layout in inspired by modern new generation Bolliger & Mabillard inverted rollercoasters, I wanted a layout that had a striking skyline, and impactful introduction into the valley.

Ikuchi
Hyper Coaster
Straddling across the entire length of the valley, this coaster is a celebration of floater air-time. Starting in fishing village, Ikuchi dives down into the gardens, out and back into the wild banks of the lake, named after a Japanese sea monster that takes the shape of a serpent, which perfectly represents the way the ride sits in the skyline.
Taking inspiration from the most recent Bolliger & Mabillard hyper coasters, Ikuchi contrasts with the neighbouring Yokai by providing a gentler more re-ridable experience that gives riders many moments of weightlessness.

I wanted to make a suite of logos that worked well together. The two rides’s logos represent the design of corresponding ride in the way the brush strokes move, with the parent logo of the area being more formal but still in keeping with the style.
Ride Area Music
Each area and attraction within the valley has a theme that goes with it, with the slow introduction into the area, the powerful theme of Yokai and a gentle meditation around the fountains and Ikuchi’s theme invoking the feel of a working fishing village. The soundtrack finishes as the sunsets on the valley with a reflective piece from Kubo and The Two Strings.
